DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special historic walking tour of the “Deuces” – 22nd Street South, cosponsored with St. Petersburg Preservation by the Carter Woodson African American Museum and the 22nd Street Redevelopment Corp. \nJoin us to learn about the incredible history of this historic corridor, the vibrant, cultural main street of black St. Pete during the segregation era.  Hear about and see the Manhattan Casino, the home of “happy feet” and the venue for all of the greats like Louis Armstrong, James Brown and Duke Ellington.   See the Royal Theater, Mercy Hospital and get an inside look at the old Jordan Elementary School, now restored as one of the first LEED certified “green” buildings in St. Pete.\nThe tour will be led by James Oliver, a life-long resident of the neighborhood and Jon Wilson, co-author of two books on the Afro-American history of St. Pete and former reporter for the St. Petersburg Times.\n
